FG Approved AK47 For Katsina Security Outfit, Ondo Will Buy For Amotekun – Akeredolu

Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has lambasted the Federal Government of Nigeria, noting that the country cannot have two systems.

In a statement on Thursday, Akeredolu reacted to the video showing the Katsina security outfit obtaining the approval to bear arms.

The governor said this followed government’s denial of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) to carry assault rifles despite terror attacks.

Akeredolu noted that denying Amotekun the rights to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamoring for.

“That Katsina was able to arm its state security force, with the display of AK47 means we are pursuing one country, two systems solution to the national question.

If the Katsina situation conferring advantages on some, in the face of commonly faced existential threats, it means that our unitary policing system, which has failed, is a deliberate method of subjugation which must be challenged.”

The governor said Nigeria’s independence agreement was based on a democratic arrangement to have a federal state and devolved internal security mechanics. We must go back to that agreement.

He added that denying Amotekun the right to bear arms exposes the Southwest to life-threatening marauders and organized crime.

It is also a deliberate destruction of our agricultural sector. It is an existential threat. We want to reiterate, that what is sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander.”

The statement announced that the Ondo government, under the doctrine of necessity, “have decided to fulfil its legal, constitutional and moral duty to the citizens of the State, by acquiring arms to protect them”.

This is more so, given that the bandits have an unchecked access to sophisticated weapons. The State government cannot look on while its citizens are being terrorized and murdered with impunity. We will defend our people.”

Train Kidnap: “We Are Relying On God” For Release Of Remaining 35 Victims – FG

We Are Relying On God For Release Of Remaining 35 Kidnapped Train Passengers – Nigerian Government.

The Nigerian government has stated that it is relying on God as plans have been concluded to secure the release of the remaining 35 Kaduna-Abuja train passengers who were kidnapped by terrorists on March 28, 2022.

SaharaReporters had reported that terrorists attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train with more than 300 passengers onboard, killing eight and kidnapping 77 passengers while dozens were injured. So far, 42 of the victims have been released after millions of naira were paid as ransoms while 35 were still in the terrorists’ captivity.

But addressing journalists on the sidelines of the World Maritime Day, Thursday, the Minister of Transportation, Engr. Mu’azu Sambo, raised the hope of the families of the remaining abductees, assuring them that very soon they would regain their freedom.

According to Leadership report, the minister recalled that on his resumption day in office, the relatives of the victims blocked him from gaining access, hence he pledged that he would ensure the release of their loved ones.

He said, “I recall that on the first day of my resumption, I was going to resume, the families of the victims blocked the road to the office and I made the pledge before God and before them that all power lies with God but I will do everything within my powers to seek for secondary power from almighty God to get their relatives released and reunited with them.

“This will happen by the grace of God. I won’t say more than that. It will happen sooner than we expected and we all know that six months is a long time for loved ones to remain in such traumatic condition. All of us are believers in God and he knows whatever befalls his creation and it’s to him alone we ask for help.

“He has never failed when we ask him and I am so sure of that and I have no doubt in my mind and by the power God possesses, those who are still in captivity will soon be reunited with their families and like I told Nigerians, the live of one Nigerian is more important than the rail service we are providing, so I don’t want anyone to think of how much we are losing.”

According to him, serious efforts, which he could not elaborate on, were on to ensure that the victims of the unfortunate incident got reunited with their families.

Sambo also debunked recent media reports that the Federal Government was losing over N30billion as monthly revenue due the stoppage of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route following the March 28 incident.

DSS Told To Investigate, Arrest Shiekh Gumi

Published

By

A civil society organisation, the Coalition for Peace In Nigeria (COPIN), has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to, as a matter of urgent national importance, arrest a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, over alleged romance with bandits/terrorists.

According to COPIN, Gumi should ordinarily be a person of interest, considering his open fraternity with bandits and kidnappers threatening national security, as well as his persistent call on the federal government to grant the terror elements amnesty.

In a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Pharmacist Emeka Akwuobi, and Hajiya Fatih Yakub National Secretary, the peace advocacy group said Gumi has a lot of explanations to offer on the activities of bandits, especially those operating within the North West general area.

While commending the secret service on the professional manner it has handled the arrest of an acclaimed kidnapped Abuja/Kaduna train passengers’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu, the group insisted on the immediate arrest, interrogation and prosecution of the Islamic scholar.

“This is more so that Mamu, the bandits’ negotiator, is the undisputed spokesperson for the Kaduna-based influential Islamic cleric”, COPIN said in the statement.

The group further noted that apprehension of Gumi is fundamental to a peaceful election, considering the fact that he will provide the Service with credible/actionable intelligence on the actual locations, and modus operandi of the terrorists, culminating in their arrest
.

The group threatened to organise a peaceful protest in Abuja, and other cities, should the intelligence agency fail to invite Gumi for interview.

The statement reads in full:

“We have watched with keen interest the provocative tendencies of Sheikh Gumi, especially as they relate to the activities of bandits/terrorists operating within the the North West general area.”
“We note, with concern, Gumi’s call for grant of amnesty to terrorists, who have killed and maimed thousands of urarmed civilians, including women and children.
“Of particular interest is the kidnap of over one hundred Abuja/Kaduna train passengers by the terrorists in April this year, many of whom are still being held under terrible conditions.
“As a peace advocacy group, we condemn all these evil acts perpetrated by the terror group, and other enemies of state operating under whatever name, as we insist that nobody, or group has the right to take arms against the State, regardless of their grievances.Consequently, we demand the immediate arrest and interrogation of Gumi who, by now, should be a person of interest to all intelligence and law enforcement agencies.”

“We will not hesitate to mobilise for peaceful protests in strategic cities, including Abuja, if the DSS fail to invite the Islamic Cleric for interview on all he knows about bandits/terrorists holding the North West states, and parts of North Central, to ransom.”

“Finally, we wish to commend the DSS over the way and manner they have continued to handle Gumi’s spokesman and negotiator, Tukur Mamu, since he was returned to the country from Cairo, Egypt, last week.”

“We say the decision to approach a Federal High Court in Abuja for permission to hold him for a certain period, pending conclusion of investigation, shows that the DSS is a law-abiding agency”.
